When purchasing a home it is very important to have competent legal advice. Real estate law can be quite complex and you do not want to be running into trouble and complications due to a legal misstep. Some of the areas where a lawyer will be able to assist you are:

  • The purchase and sale agreement. When you make an offer to buy a house that is accepted, you have entered into a legal contract unless there are conditions mentioned in the offer that need to be met before the contract is in place. Consequently it is very important that the offer is drafted properly.
  • Determining issues such as the closing date and property inspection
  • Doing a title search to ensure that the property is being transferred free and clear
  • Ensuring that the mortgage documents are in place

Finding a competent lawyer

Some of the ways to find a competent lawyer for your real estate transaction are:

  • Ask friends and family members what lawyer they used in their real estate transactions and whether or not they were satisfied.
  • The Yellow Pages. Look for lawyers who specialize in real estate.
